Neither of those Swedish girls who are going to be portraying Nico in either of those movies, are in my opinion, not at all right-looking.

This may seem like a stretch to some of you, but I've always personally felt that if there were to be a movie made about Nico's life, Uma Thurman ought to portray her.

They have very similar faces, heights, expressions, etc...Not to mention that Uma is to me a superb actress who would be known enough to draw attention to the movie, but not of such commercial pedigree as to miss Nico's essence.

These pictures to me, should make one take notice of the resesmblence.

I think it would be a brilliant casting choice, though somewhat outside the box.

The main issue I can see is that Nico, even in her youth, was a bit more curvaceous than Uma. Certainly in the early Velvet Underground years and thereafter she was not nearly so skinny, and somehow I suspect that getting Uma Thurman to gain weight for a part would be a problem. Reportedly she has severe body issues.

Hm, I wasn't aware of that...Like an eating disorder?
Ahwell...if they did though, her skinniness wouldn't be such a problem in the later years when she wore heavier clothing, or even when she wore pants suits, singing with the Velvets.
But either way, I'll keep dreaming about that perfect Nico movie. Hehe

Uma gave an interview a while back in which she revealed that she suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

It always seems odd that a famous, much-loved person can suffer from such an illness. If I got close enough to Uma Thurman to touch her I'd probably burst into tears. You'd think there would be plenty of external evidence that no, there's nothing wrong with her body, but I suppose that just shows there's nothing logical about this disease.

Shirley Manson has it too, and is in my opinion, hopelessly beautiful, so I guess it's just that they zero in on the little things and can't let go...like a much worse version of obsessive compulsive disorder.
But they'll always have their peanut gallery rooting for their beauty!

Nico wasn't curvy, her frame was just broad.
Nico was very thin, especialls in the early velvet years.

true, like in that photo Uma's arm is too little to be Nico's, but the problem wasn't because Nico was too curvy, Image hosted by Photobucket.com
atleast not at this point. She didn't gain weight really until the 80s. in which she was so horrifying Uma would really need to change a few things to pull that off.

Other than that i think Uma would be a great Nico.
she really has the ability to be angry too, which i think would be essential.
she's tall enough, which Uma does not embrace enough

ah i'm ever so familiar with being skinny. for the longest time i've been able to see my own ribs, though i eat normally...

er...anyway....i don't really think nico looked "horrifying" in her later years...true, she did look a bit beat up and bedraggled, but there was something in her that to my mind, proceded to glow and shine through in a tender vulnerability in her eyes. She never lost her essential beauty.
But yeah, all things considered, WE should be the ones casting this movie, hehe!

Wow, thanks for the photo. Maybe it's her cheekbones and her height that just give her the impression of being a bigger woman than she was.
